Oh. My. Goodness. I was at the store today trying to buy a pair of pants, (which in itself is no fun at all), and the sales person was driving me crazy!! She was Over-The-Top-Sicky-Sweet. Do you know what I am talking about? She was smiling really big, pretending she was my bff, calling me “girlfriend”, telling me everything looked great on my… which was a bold faced lie!! It was all I could do to get out of there without hurting someone!!

People that are just too happy really annoy me. The sweeter and happier they get, the more I find myself wanting to punch them (not really… but you know what I mean!!)

I think the reason is that it feels so fake. No one can be that sappy sweet and be for real… right?

On the other hand, I love being with people who exude Joy. Joy seems to be contagious. I love the feeling when I am with someone who is full of joy… It feels effortless.

Joy is so different from Happy! They are like two sisters… they have many of the same characteristics, but very different personalities.!! Happy is changing her mind with every new thing. She is distractible, and unpredictable. She can be loud and bold, and fun. But she is hard to find consistently. Joy, on the other hand, is steady. Joy is the deep thinker… she is peaceful, genuine, soulful. Joy can be loud and bold at times, but always confident, quiet spirited and content. She is longer lasting, less fleeting then Happy.

Joy is defined as “The emotion that is acquired by the anticipation, acquisition, or even expectation of something great or wonderful”. I think that is the difference between joy and happiness. Joy includes Hope! It includes the expectation of something great or wonderful!!

We were created with the ability to choose Joy. We can’t always choose happiness… but we can choose joy. Our brains and our souls can look past our circumstances and focus on possibility! This is easy to do when our lives are going smoothly. But when you are at the metaphorical clothing store trying on pants that don’t fit it’s really hard to choose joy!!

I know I need a little help sometimes to find Joy. The things happening around me feel so overwhelming that I can’t see through them to find the good. Much of the time I know that I just need to stop… to take a breath, and choose to look for positive & possibility.

Young Living Essential Oils has an oil blend that was intentionally blended to help with this. It’s called Joy.

Here are the oils in the little pink bottle of Joy!!

  • Bergamot~ This is, in my opinion, the best essential oil for emotional wellness. It is my #1 emotional regulation oil that I recommend in my book. It works to support your brain to balance its emotional center, and bring you back to calm and peace… it helps clear up the fog in your brain so you have the ability to focus on the “positive & possibility”.
  • Ylang Ylang~ This is another one of my top 5 oils! It helps support your heart and blood pressure… this is great to reduce those anxious feelings and help your body let go of stress. It helps restore confidence!
  • Geranium~ This oil supports your hormones. This is a very good thing!!! Joy can be really hard to find when your hormones are out of whack!!
  • Lemon~ This is just a really good happy oil! It is stimulating and just makes you feel better. Breathing in Lemon essential oil always makes me feel better… it just does. There is research that shows lemon oil reduces the symptoms of deep sadness (LM Lopes C, et al., 2011). It’s a real thing!!
  • Coriander~ Supports our immune system, helps with tummy issues as well!
  • Tangerine~ This is just yummy!! One of my favorite oils of all time. It contains esters and aldehydes that are sedating and calming, combating those nervous and anxious feelings. AND it just smells good.
